John Snyder, Jr. Obituary

John H. Snyder, Jr., a man of unwavering faith and remarkable courage, passed away on December 1, 2025, in Osceola, Indiana. Born on August 26, 1962, in South Bend, Indiana, John lived a life devoted to his family, his community, and his passions.

He was the beloved son of the late John H. Snyder, Sr. and Shirley (Bucher) Snyder. In September 1992, John married the love of his life, Tracey Lynne (Wilcox) Snyder, at Gospel Center Church in South Bend. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three cherished children: Ashleigh (Bryan Obando) Snyder, Haley (Austin) Luedeke, and Kyle (Katelyn Canen) Snyder, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his days.

John’s family circle extended to his siblings—Lisa (George) Bagley, Kevin (Paula) Snyder, Scott (Carole) Snyder, and Keith (Julie) Snyder—as well as many nieces and nephews. Family gatherings were a source of laughter, love, and lasting memories.

Professionally, John worked as a dedicated salesman of office products, but his true calling was in the fire service and journalism. He spent many years as a reporter for WSBT, covering stories that left a lasting impression on him. His commitment to public service was evident in his more than 40 years with the Penn Township Fire Department, where he served as chief at various levels. John was also a proud Ambassador for the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, earning Ambassador of the Year in 2022.

Outside of work, John found joy in volunteering with the 511 Club, attending concerts, serving on the Granger Community Church Medical Team, and spending time with family and friends. But his most cherished time was cheering on his kids at their extracurricular activities. His charisma, generosity, and enthusiasm touched everyone he met.

John’s passing leaves a profound void, but his laughter, wisdom, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to shine through the lives he touched. Though we say goodbye, John’s story is not one of ending—it is one of enduring influence, echoing through his family, his community, and all who were blessed to know him.
