John L. Vaughn, 70, of Granger passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Hospital in Mishawaka.
John was born on July 9, 1952 in East Liverpool, Ohio, to the late Harold and Janice (Smith) Vaughn. He was the second of their 5 children, Harold (Skip), Lisa, Charles and Timothy.John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Skip. He resided in Bisbee, AZ, Riverside, CA, San Bernardino, CA and stayed the last few years of his life with the Missing family in Granger IN. He was his nephew's (Eric) favorite Uncle and best friend.
John earned a baccalaureate and a master degree in psychology & sociology from the University of California, Riverside (UCR). He worked in the San Bernardino County Child Protective Services for years. His work with the Foster Care System, Child Protective Services, as well as work in Child Psychology were some of his greatest achievements. He was the wind under so many wings--though he never thought so. His special ability to work with people and children was a rare gift. He changed careers and obtained a master degree in finance from the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and worked as an accountant in the later part of his life.
John is survived by his sister Lisa Missing, brothers Charles Vaughn & Timothy Vaughn,children Heather Hushelpeck and Christopher Vaughn with his former wife Katie Roadarmel. His grandchildren include Sierra and Riley Hushelpeck and Tyler and Laurin Vaughn. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye.
John loved traveling and camping. He enjoyed good movies and music. Together with his best buddy he worked on a musical. His cooking was something we all looked forward to. He was
well versed in many different cultural cuisines, which included great breakfasts and delicious dishes from various different cultures. He was a great people person, quick witted and was
always ready to launch his jokes to make us laugh. He will be sorely missed.
In keeping with John's wishes, his family will gather privately to celebrate his life. Palmer Funeral Homes and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family at this time.
