John Charles “Jack” Slanker, age 65, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. Born on June 3, 1960, Jack was known for his positive attitude, kind heart, and ability to bring joy and laughter to everyone he met.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Shirley Slanker, and his brother-in-law, Robert Rosner.
For several years, Jack worked in the family business, South of the Border, where he entertained countless people as a balloon artist. He later used his talents and craftsmanship as a carpenter and building engineer, careers he proudly held until his retirement in 2021. In 2025, Jack relocated to Mishawaka, Indiana, to live near his brother Thomas.
Outside of work, Jack enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. He had a deep appreciation for history, especially anything involving World War II and airplanes. He loved listening to rock music, enjoying a good meal of fried chicken, and spending peaceful days fishing.
Jack is survived by his siblings, Lynn Rosner, Robert R. Slanker, James Slanker (Dawn), and Thomas Slanker (Kim). He held an incredibly special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews — Ben, Nikki, Jenna, Lauren, Emily, Matthew, Julie, and Eliza — who lovingly knew him as their “Goofy Uncle Jack.” He is also survived by his great-nephew, Noah.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 12, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 7750 Cermak Rd., Forest Park, IL 60130.
