Joseph Sharp Obituary

Joseph U. Sharp, age 74, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on June 12, 2026, in the city where he was born and lived much of his life. He was born on December 13, 1951, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and carried with him throughout his life the steady values of hard work, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched those around him.

He was the beloved son of the late Helen (Foster) Sharp and the late Urban M. Sharp. He was also preceded in death by his brother, David Sharp Sr. On April 17, 1989 in Meycauayan, Bulacan, Philippines, Joseph was married to Virginia Dalagan, who survives. Joseph is also survived by his nephew David Sharp Jr. (Mona), niece Denise Wicker and nephew John Sharp (Susan) along with his great nieces and nephews.

Joseph spent much of his working life as a laborer in the automotive industry, where he was known for his dependable nature, strong work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He understood the value of honest labor and took satisfaction in doing his part well. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Joseph had cultivated many friendships throughout the years with other veterans. Joseph was a lover of Civil War history and had many collectibles and he and Vergie had made many precious memories visiting Civil War battle sites together. 

Services for Joseph will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN. Visitation will be held from 11:00am -1:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside service and burial with military honors will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Donations can be made in Joseph’s name to Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
