Josephine A. Myers, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at EmbraceCare Group Home in South Bend, Indiana.
Josephine was born on October 18, 1932, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a 1950 graduate of Mishawaka High School and attended many of the reunions when she was able. She devoted much of her professional life to a long and successful career as a realtor, working with various companies over 27 years before owning her own real estate company, Jo Myers Realty, for 10 years, and finally retiring in 2010. Jo loved to dance, travel, and play bridge. Jo spent 5 years running the Senior Circle at Little Flower Catholic Church. Jo also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. She loved Notre Dame and particularly basketball. She held season tickets to both men’s and women’s basketball teams for many years. In her 60s she discovered painting and produced many rather nice pieces which are now owned by her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit and always having her hair styled and finger nails polished, usually red.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lillian Myers; her sisters, Mary Jane Myers and Kathleen Nowlin; her brothers, Lawrence Myers and Edward Myers; her daughter, Barbara Atkins; and her son, Edward Kurowski.
Josephine is survived by her children: Carol (Terry) Rupert, Margaret Goldsmith, Mary Jo (Mark) Mankowski, Dorie (Jeffrey) Erickson, Patrick (Fria) Kurowski, Michael (Julie Bartlett) Kurowski, and Mark (Amy) Kurowski.
She was a proud grandmother to 24 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, all of whom were a great joy in her life.
Josephine was a faithful member of St. Thérèse, Little Flower Catholic Church. Her faith remained an important source of strength and comfort throughout her life.
