Josephine “Jose” (Gaskell) Taylor, age 77, of Granger, Indiana, passed away on October 6, 2021 after an extended illness at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN. She was born on April 27, 1944 in Orrell, England, to Magdalen (Wilson) Gaskell and Thomas John Gaskell, both deceased.
Ever gregarious, Jose went out with friends one night and met a guitar-playing gentleman. On May 29, 1971, she married David Taylor. They were happily married for 41 years, before his passing in 2013.
Jose and David were world travelers, moving from England, to Canada, to America before finally settling in Granger, Indiana, with their children. Even after putting down roots, Jose continued to travel, visiting foreign countries almost yearly.
Jose was active for many years in the bowling and square/round dancing communities. She was also active in the St. Pius X Catholic Church community. She knitted hats for preemie babies in the hospital, and she took part in many events for the Society for Creative Anachronism. She also regularly volunteered for the Michiana Renaissance Festival and the Pirate Festival. More than anything, though, she loved being with her family.
Jose is survived by her three children, Christopher J. (Emily) Taylor of Niles, MI; Jannine Dolby (Lisa Grimm) of Pataskala, OH; and Helen (Bob) Teutsch of Wyoming, MI; as well as seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, David Gaskell, of England.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30-10:30am on Saturday at the church prior to Mass. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
For those unable to attend in person, Mass will be livestreamed at stpius.net with streaming to begin approximately ten minutes prior to Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jose may be directed to a cancer charity of the donor’s choice.
