Juliann Huff Obituary

Juliann (Hemmerlein) Huff, 56, of Mishawaka, passed away on Monday March 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Health System-Mishawaka.

Julie was born on January 1, 1970, in Mishawaka to the late Arthur and Shirley (Montague) Hemmerlein.

Julie obtained her Master’s degree in Education and was a tireless and dedicated educator for 32 years, 31 of those at Jefferson Middle School. Before passing, she held the position of Media Specialist at Jefferson, and also was the coordinator for multiple different extracurricular activities. She coached the Lego League team with her colleague Brenda Saavedra, and for a long time was the coordinator for National Junior Honor Society at Jefferson.

Julie was blessed with one daughter, Kylie Huff, whom she adored. Julie fully and enthusiastically supported everything Kylie found interest in- especially ballet and horseback riding.

Julie is survived by her daughter, Kylie, her siblings, Brent (Donna) Hemmerlein, Arthur (Sheri) Hemmerlein, Mickey (George) Roelandts, David (Kristie) Hemmerlein, Terry Filip, and Steve (Bettie) Hemmerlein along with many nieces and nephews.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents.

Julie loved horses at a very young age, and passed that love on to her daughter. Julie could often be seen following Kylie around at horse shows with her “pit crew bucket”, ready to give both the horse and Kylie a touch up after their classes. She also became known as the designated jello shot maker for long horse show weekends.

Along with horses, Julie supported her daughter’s dancing career unconditionally for the past 13 years. She attended every single performance of The Nutcracker- even if it meant she saw the same show five times. She never once complained about the time spent in the car between activities or the sacrifices she made for Kylie.

Visitation for Julie will be held from 4pm-7pm on Monday March 16, 2026 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd. South Bend.  Visitation will also be held from 10am-11am with a Mass of Christian burial at 11am on Tuesday March 17, 2026 at St. Joseph Church South Bend, 226 N. Hill St.
