MISHAWAKA – Kenneth Charles Hurt Jr., 58, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his family.
Ken was born February 24, 1961 to Kenneth C. and Helen (Marroni) Hurt Sr. in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from Penn High School in 1979.
On September 11, 1993 in Granger, he married Amy Lynn Bali. In 2009, Ken and Amy traveled to Ethiopia and brought home their daughter, Bekelech Jane “Becca”. Becca was his greatest joy and accomplishment. She was the light of his life and he was so proud of all of her accomplishments. He will always be watching over his favorite fruitcake and we got this Boo!
Ken worked many years at Liberty Steel followed by being self-employed selling steel. He then worked at Accuride in Quality Control until they moved from the area. He recently retired from Polygon in Walkerton.
Ken’s favorite “job” was his twenty-five-year involvement with Regional Radio Sports Network broadcasting Penn Football. Ken bled black and gold for his Kingsmen and loved being “The Voice of the Kingsmen” every Friday night. His knowledge of Penn football and football in general was endless.Working with Paul, Tonya, Mike K., Mike R., Todd, Donnie, Chris and the whole team with RRSN thru the years was so special to him. I’m sure he’ll be listening every Friday night from above.
His next love was Notre Dame Football, the Chicago Bears and the Blackhawks. He could talk any sport with anyone.
Ken is survived by his wife, Amy and daughter, Bekelech both of Mishawaka. His step-mother, Billie Jean Hurt of Mishawaka, step-sister, Mary (Jeff) Rehmel of Greenwood, along with Michael, Cassandra (Grant) and Ryan. He is also survived by his favorite mother-in-law, Jane Bali. He loved his in-law family and spending time with them. Beth (Jim), Stacey, Ellen, Chris (Dianne), Oscar, Alan (Katie), Marissa (Kyle) and Katie. And all of his great nieces and nephews. He loved you all so much and loved joining and being part of our craziness. His jokes will live on forever!
Proceeding him in death was his father, Kenneth C. Hurt Sr.
Thank you also to Ken’s Aunt Rose for always being there for Ken.
Through the years we have made many close friends that have become family. Our Patty Park Crew (large party!), Our RRSN family, Penn Football family and Penn Girls basketball family. Ken loved you all and you all helped make his life so special.
