It is with great sadness that we share the recent passing of our father, Larry R. Kinney, on Sunday, February 1 5, 2026 of natural causes at the age of 79 years old. He was the son of John Franklin Kinney and Ruby (Barr) Kinney born in LaPorte IN on April 29, 1946. His father John Franklin Kinney passed when Larry was only two years old. Ruby later married Joseph Letcher, who lovingly raised Larry as his own son.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruby Letcher, stepbrothers John, William, and James Letcher, sister Sharon Kimble, brother in-law Dale Kimble, and son, Joel Christopher Kinney.
Larry is survived by his brother, David Letcher, sister in-law, Brenda Letcher, sons Jon Charles Kinney and Jeff Alan Kinney, and his son's mother, Terry Beth Kilgas.
Larry grew up on a large farm in South Bend and attended Washington High School where he played varsity basketball. Larry then served two years in the US Army, being honorably discharged in 1972. He later attended IUSB where he received an associate's degree. He then started a vast career in the printing business, spanning several companies beginning with Service Printers, then with Petersen Printing as Vice President of Operations. He also served in that role at Keener Printing & Lithography and later Ave Maria Press, from which he retired.
His dedication and strong work ethic allowed him to succeed very well over decades within our local printing industry. He was united in marriage in a candlelight ceremony on May 1, 1971, with Terry Beth Quimby. They were blessed with three sons, Jon, Joel and Jeff. Early in his career Larry was consumed with climbing the corporate ladder and supporting his family. Larry and Terry later divorced after twenty-three years of marriage, remaining close through the relationship of their sons, who he supported in every way possible.
He had an amazing bond with his sons, and they will truly cherish all the memories that they enjoyed and shared with their dad. Larry was also an avid golfer and loved to play cards with his high school buddies. Larry was always a very caring and welcoming individual. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him. As per his wishes there will be no visitation or services. May he Rest in Peace. Fly High Dad!
