Laurie Shaffer, 58, of Mishawaka, IN., passed away at 12:09 p.m. Wednesday, April 24th , 2024 at IU Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN surrounded by family.
Laurie was born on June 15, 1965 in Elkhart, IN., to Joseph and Barbara (Stowe) Hamood. On September 10, 1994, in Mishawaka, Laurie married the love of her life, Robert Shaffer. Robert survives along with three daughters; Amanda (Ryan) Flatt, Mary (Kalman) Perjesi and Robyn Shaffer, three grandchildren who she adored; Weston Shaffer, Aubrey Perjesi and Avery Perjesi, her mother, Barbara and her sister, Pamela Hamood; and her nieces and nephews.niece Kaelynn Fedele.
Laurie went to Brown Mackie College and graduated to get her medical assistant degree. She then worked as a medical assistant and was a member of Gospel Center Missionary Church. Laurie spent a lot of time working, crocheting & spoiling her three daughters as well as being a good, mean euchre player. She fought her first battle with heart disease in 2009 and 2012 she received her LVAD that gave her a second chance at life.
Laurie loved and cherished her grandchildren. Her first grandchild was born in 2019, where her title of Mom then changed to Nana. She was later then blessed with two more grandchildren who she also loved and adored their nana. You would always catch Nana at every extra curricular activity of her children and grandchildren. Laurie gave everyone around her everything she had until the very last day; home cooked meals, car rides to events, watching the kids, and always had tea to spill. Even if it meant she would struggle as a result in supporting those around her, she would always offer, without question. Laurie was, is, and will forever be in our hearts.
Services for Laurie will be held on Tuesday, April 30, at 5:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka with a visitation being held from 3:00 p.m. until service time. Pastor Jon Ranous will officiate the services.
