Lelia Lois Masten, 101 of Mishawaka passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 1:32 am at Southfield Village in South Bend.
Lelia was born February 28, 1925 in Lakeville, Indiana to Joseph and Pearl (Laughman) Plummer. Both preceded her in death.
She was preceded in death by 9 brothers Robert, John, Glen (Mary), Richard, (Marion) Joseph, James, Lynn (Berneda), Jake, (Gail) and Dan(Sandi), a half-sister Helen Knepp (Clell), and four sisters, Martha (Kenny) Stanage, Donna (Dwight) Nolen, Evelyn (Dick) Rice, and Iris(Louie) Tortorelli.
She is survived by one sister Jean (Dean) Rice of Mishawaka.
On November 24,1976 in Las Vegas NV, she married Frederick Masten. Fred preceded her in death in 2013.
Lelia is survived by two daughters, Lauralee (Tom) Nothstine of Mishawaka and Maralouise (Lee) Ammerman of Mishawaka, one step-son Kim Masten of Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by one step-daughter Christa Trok
She is survived by six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one great grandchild.
Lelia retired as a cosmetologist. She and Fred spent many winters in Pharr TX where they loved to square dance, enjoy all the social activities in their retirement village, visit Mexico, and entertain family and friends from the North. Lelia loved to travel and visited many places including Alaska, Quebec Canada, South Africa, and Swaziland. She was a champion shuffle boarder and took first place in several shuffleboard competitions. She and Fred spent summers in Rochester IN until Fred’s death when Lelia moved to Mishawaka. She will be dearly missed by all her knew and loved her.
Memorial service will take place on Thursday May 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka 46545, with a visitation being held from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 10776 McKinley Hwy, Osceola 46561, will take place at a later date.
Thank you to the Hospice Center and Palliative Care of Mishawaka who helped care for her for the past two years as well as all the caring staff (many who became friends) at Southfield Village.
