Lisa Ann Holloway, 63, passed away Wednesday, June 10, after a short battle with uterine cancer. Lisa was born September 25, 1962 in Niles, Michigan to Richard, Sr. and Shirley Luke. Their family home has always been on Mooreland Street in Buchanan. She graduated from Buchanan High School (Class of 1980) and Lake Michigan College.
Even though she flirted with her future husband Jerry while in high school, their spark ignited at the Buchanan Old-Fashioned Labor Day celebration in 1985. They married on September 19, 1987. After a few years of living in Indianapolis where their daughter Rachel was born, they moved “home” to Niles in 1994, where their family loved each other deeply.
Lisa always enjoyed music. She studied piano under Buchanan’s legendary teacher, Mrs. Gault. She played clarinet in the BHS band and was always happy to accompany friends to any concert. Each winter, Lisa counted the days until her beloved Cubs spring training would open and either had the TV or the radio on for each Cubs game. She was ecstatic when Jerry installed a flagpole at their house so she could “Fly the W” after each Cubs win. She loved Notre Dame women’s basketball. She and Rachel were often in the stands watching Muffet McGraw coach her team to victory. And, of course, rooted for the Fighting Irish football team every fall. She brought joy and positivity to anything she was involved in.
Lisa loved discovering the country by traveling with Jerry and Rachel. Her work at Hanson and the friends she made there were special. It made her smile to get together for their reunion gatherings. Lisa also had a special place in her heart for her “girls”, all friends kept close since their days in elementary and middle school. So many people have been blessed by Lisa’s love, laughter, and kindness.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Jerry and daughter Rachel (Jake) Ernsperger, and precious grandson Luke Ernsperger. Also surviving is her beloved father, Richard H. Luke, Sr., her brother Robert “Bob” (Donna) Luke, and niece Stephanie Luke. Lisa dearly loved her family and extended family, especially cousin, Debbie and Great Aunt Ann. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley, and oldest brother, Richard H. Luke, Jr.
