Lisa Steward Obituary

Lisa Yvette Steward was born on Tuesday, January 31, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois to Clyda Faye Steward, nurtured by her stepfather Rafe Steward Jr. (Janette). She was the sixth out of 10 children of the blended family.

Lisa had a passion for learning.  She earned her associate’s in social work from IVY Tech, bachelor’s degree from Bethel, and her master’s degree from IUSB.  Her education achievements reflected her dedication to personal growth and her desire to make a meaningful difference in the life of others.

Her professional life was devoted to addiction recovery case management.  Lisa worked with individuals and families to find hope and healing.  Through her service, she helped guide many towards brighter and healthier paths.

Lisa was the life of the party!  She would always bust out doing a dance that was totally off rhythm!  She loved the band Queen and her crush on Prince.  Lisa loved getting her hair and nails done, shopping with her best friends, her cousin Lillian Steward, (Juels) and her 2 sister in-laws, Lois Steward and Charmaine Steward, who also preceded her in death.  Lisa’s brother Vincent Steward preceded her in death.  Lisa also found simple joy in her plants.  They brought her joy, light and energy, just like she brought to many people.

Lisa will always be remembered with love and gratitude by all who was blessed to have known her and have her in their lives.

Lisa leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Tashiana Leeks, William (Sidney) Leeks, Thaddeus Brooks Jr. (Tanya), and Sa’von Newsome Sr.  Her grandchildren Zaria, Bryel, Javion, Brennan, Whitlea, Jesse, Sa’von Jr., Jeremiah, Jaxtyn, Amira, Jakari, and her treasured great-grandson Ty’len.  Siblings, Victor Steward, Lois Steward, Vaughn Steward, Virgil Steward (Charmaine), Maurice Steward, Annette Young, Joyce Steward, Larissa Johnson and Jennifer Steward Gordon (Desmon).  Her very special friend Ricardo Lottie, and her honorary brother and sister Karen Veal and Michael Hood.  Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
