Lois May (Wilburn) Claycomb, born on February 10, 1931, in Marsteller, Pennsylvania, and formerly of South Bend, Indiana, died on May 19, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida.
Lois lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and the many simple joys that brought her happiness. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A graduate of Barnesboro (Pennsylvania) High School, Lois dedicated her life to her home and family as a homemaker, where her care, patience, and steady love formed the heart of her household.
Lois was an avid quilter whose hands created warmth and beauty in equal measure. Her quilts were more than works of craft because they reflected her thoughtfulness, her creativity, and her desire to comfort those she loved. She also enjoyed watching “Jeopardy,” following ND football, and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, pastimes that reflected her curiosity and sharp mind. These interests brought her joy throughout her life and were part of the personality that family and friends came to cherish.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda De Roche and her husband Stéphane, of Dover, DE; her sons, William “Bill” Claycomb and his wife Vicky, of South Bend, IN; David Claycomb and his wife Ellen, of Livingston, TX; Kenneth Claycomb and his wife Debra, of Bradenton, FL; and her son-in-law Eric Romine, of Tazewell, TN. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Christina Pozsgai, Tonya Kuhl and her husband Jamie, Shane Claycomb, Ashley Claycomb, and Jessica Fraley and her husband Albert. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Zachary Pozsgai and his wife Kelly, Ethan Pozsgai, Lauren Bergeron and her husband Jarid, Darryn Kuhl, Melissa Claycomb and her partner Brandon Davis, Joseph Claycomb, and Michelle Flugan, and her great-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Emery Davis. She leaves as well a host of nieces and nephews. Each of them carries forward a part of her love, her values,
and the many memories she helped create.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, Russell E. Wilburn; her mother, Elva M. (Bowman) Wilburn; her husband, William J. “Bud” Claycomb, whom she married on September 9, 1950, in South Bend; her daughters, Karen Romine and Nancy Grooms; her sisters, Catherine Sinclair and Joyce Whited; and her brothers, Donald Wilburn and Kenneth Wilburn. Though her family grieves her loss, they take comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who went before her and that her life was one of enduring love and devotion.
