Lucille Swartz, 95, of Buchanan, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026.
Lucille was born on June 21, 1930, in Niles, Michigan, to the late Edward and Myrna (Campbell) Erickson, and remained a lifelong resident of the Niles/Buchanan community. She was a 1948 graduate of Niles High School.
Lucille was a former member of the Church of the Nazarene and a longtime member of Portage Road General Baptist Church, where her deep love for Jesus shaped every part of her life. She was known for her generous heart, her giving spirit, and her unwavering faith. In her younger years, she traveled on mission trips to Haiti—experiences she cherished and spoke of often. She was honored as Mother of the Year through her church and affectionately known as “Grandma Chickie” to all who knew and loved her.
Lucille also enjoyed her years working at Walmart, where she proudly gave 16 years of service and formed many lasting friendships. Above all, she treasured the family she built and the love that surrounded her throughout her life.
She is survived by her seven children: Sherry (Ron) Coleman of Niles, Holly (Greg) Weiner of Monroe, MI, Larry Swartz of Buchanan, Debby (Stan) Warda of Berrien Springs, MI, Don (Lisa DeMeulenaere) Swartz Jr. of Niles, Judy (Ron) Poznanski of Buchanan, and Mike (Lyn) Swartz of North Liberty, IN.
Lucille was blessed with 17 grandchildren, as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
She also leaves behind her sisters, Virginia Spaulding of Niles and Ruth (Kennard) Feltz of New Carlisle, IN.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Erma Kiefer and Myrna Van Brocklyn, and her brother, John Erickson.
In keeping with Lucille’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be held. Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
