Makyi Toliver Obituary

June 1, 2001, God sent a beautiful, happy, smiling baby boy to bring joy to his family. Makyi was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and the baby of the clan. He was an extremely inquisitive kid with the most jovial smile that would light up any room.

Makyi was very intelligent and an avid reader. He could often be found with his nose in a book, exploring new worlds and expanding his knowledge. He became bored with the traditional school structure and lobbied for himself a different plan. He decided that earning his GED and getting a trade from the Job Corp would be more beneficial for him. One of his most proud moments was completing his GED at the age of 16.

In addition to his love for reading, Makyi was also an avid video game enthusiast, considered a “Gamer.” He enjoyed the challenge and excitement of immersing himself in virtual worlds and would spend hours mastering the latest games.

Makyi, a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, left this world suddenly on May 25, 2023, at the age of 21.

Makyi leaves an imprint of love in the hearts of his parents Michael and Tamera Phillips, his siblings Minequa, Makeyla, Milton (Mook), Michele, Marshawn and Savannah, his grandparents; Ronald Dawson of Chicago, IL, Marvin and Venee Smalls of South Bend, IN, Jose and Sharon Bicknell of Balch Springs, TX, Geraldine Williams of Biloxi, MS, two nieces; Ez’Rhiaya and Amor, one nephew; Messiah, 8 aunts; Ronisha, Tosha, Tonya, Evelyn, Connie, Tonda, Rachel and Barbara. One uncle; Derrick Dawson, his Yah ma; Myra Reed and a community of cousins, family and friends.

Makyi’s spirit is received in Love by his Great Grandparents; G-BABY and PAPPY (Marguerite and Lamar Jones), Grandmother (Julia Mae Phillips), and his Uncle Chuckie (Ronald Brown).

Though Makyi’s time on this earth was short, the impact he had on the lives of those around him will never be forgotten. Makyi Toliver’s life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and determination, and he will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
