Marcella "Joan" Spite Obituary

Marcella Joan Spite, age 85, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on April 30, 2026. She was born on January 21, 1941, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and her faith.

Joan was the daughter of the late Raymond Dickson and Ruth (Pinnick) Dickson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Michael Spite, whom she married on September 22, 1956, in Mishawaka, and who passed away on October 26, 1991. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Wenger, her brother, Alan Dickson, and her cherished granddaughter, Alexandria Martz.

She is survived by her loving children, Andy (Liliana Quintero) Spite, Melinda Martz, Mark Spite, and Susan (Eric) Lupa. Joan also leaves behind a large and treasured family of grandchildren, including Michael (Jessica) Spite, Matthew (Leeann) Spite, Meredith (James) Fish, Scott (Allison) Spite, Nikole (Matt) Walker-Martz, Jordan (Alyssa) Martz, Kody Martz, Jasmine Martz, Landon Martz, Vince Tarnecy, Eli Lupa, Danny Lupa, Mariana Quintero, and eight loving great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Weldy and Barbara (DeWayne) Forrest.

Joan spent more than 30 years working in furniture sales, a career she truly loved and in which she earned many accomplishments. She took great pride in her work and was known for her dedication, her warm personality, and her eye for detail. Her talent for interior decorating reflected her natural sense of style and her ability to make any space feel welcoming and beautiful.

Above all else, Joan loved her family. She especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Mamoo.” Those moments with her family were among her greatest joys, and she treasured every opportunity to gather, laugh, and share life with the people she loved most. Her home and heart were always open, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Joan also found joy in serving others through her faith. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school at the Apostolic Temple, where she shared her kindness, encouragement, and devotion with younger generations. Her life was a reflection of steadfast love, quiet strength, and a generous spirit that touched many lives.

A private burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN.
