Marcia A. Kittrell

Mrs. Marcia Ann McNichols-Kittrell, 79, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Medina, Ohio, on November 30, 1946, Marcia was the daughter of the late O.Z. McNichols and Virginia “Mama Kate” Ann Burrows Ledford, both preceding her in death.

Marcia also met her late husband Clarence E. Kittrell, Sr. in Kentucky, and were married on March 11, 1964, shortly before graduating from Lincoln High School. The couple then moved to South Bend, Indiana, to start their new life as a family, but sadly that journey was short-lived with the sudden passing of her husband at the tender age of 43. However, with God’s strength Marcia was determined to take care of her family, jumpstarting her long-time career at Sears working in the maintenance agreement and appliance departments before retiring after nearly 29 dedicated years of service. In the meantime, she attended various churches before planting her lifelong roots at Olivet A.M.E. Church. With the love of Christ in her heart, she served as a Steward and Missionary in the Women's Missionary Society while also being an active member of the NAACP and the Alberta King Senior Women’s Club.

Marcia is survived by her children: Karana (John) Smith Jr. of Houston, Texas; Clarence (DeAngela) Kittrell Jr. of Buckeye, Arizona; Anna Kittrell of South Bend, Indiana; Nicolette (Grant Rayfield) Kittrell of Seattle, Washington; and Jeremiah Kittrell of South Bend, Indiana. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jessyka (Michael Tribbey) Henderson, John Smith III, Jourdyn (Gordan) Love, Kris (Akasha) Kittrell, and Cierra Samuels; nine great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

As the last remaining daughter of Mama Kate, she will be preceded in death by her youngest son, Dante Kittrell, along with her five sisters and three brothers. Though her earthly journey has ended, her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who encountered her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 18, 2026, at Olivet A.M.E. Church, 719 N. Notre Dame Ave., South Bend, Indiana 46617. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m.

Interment will be at Highland Cemetery followed by the repast at Olivet A.M.E. Church.
