Marcus Wayne Briggs, Sr.

Marcus Wayne Briggs took his wings and made his way to his new life in heaven suddenly on 5/18/18. Marcus accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life, he resided as a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor André A. McGhee.

Marcus leaves his cherished loved ones: son Marcus Briggs, Jr. of South Bend, IN; daughter Jerri Briggs of San Jose, CA; mother Addie Briggs of South Bend; father Arton Briggs, Sr. of South Bend; four sisters: Cassandra (Darrell) Williams of Stockbridge, GA, Valerie (Stacy) West of Snellville, GA, Neva Briggs (Myron) Williams of South Bend and Tosha Briggs of South Bend; special sister Jacqueline Lottie of South Bend; three brothers: Arton Briggs, Jr., Henry (Leceisha) Briggs and Roger Briggs, all of South Bend. Marcus also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will greatly miss him.

Marcus was a dedicated worker for the South Bend Community School Corporation for numerous years, where he changed lives through his devoted efforts to help others. He served as a member of the Usher Board and assisted and worked in various area as needed in the church. Although he impacted all of our lives during his journey, and will be deeply missed, God, our Heavenly Father, said it was time for him to rest. His struggles and hardships will no longer burden him. Let’s continue to live our fullest lives, knowing Marcus would want the best for all of us. Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forward…

Marcus, your memory will live on within all of us, Dear Brother.

Those special memories of you will always bring a smile, if only we could have you back for just a little while, then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do, you always meant so very much to us, and always will. Funeral Services for Mr. Marcus Wayne Briggs, Sr. will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend. Pastor Andr A. McGhee will officiate. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church.
