Margie M. (Wirth) Shipley

Marjorie “Margie” M. Shipley, 96, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at her residence. Margie was born on August 29, 1925, in Barron County, WI, the youngest of 10 children of the late Fred and Mathilda (Sanders) Wirth.

On June 6, 1945, in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Eldon V. Shipley who preceded her in death November 30, 2011. Margie is survived by her daughters, Glynis F. (James) Skwarcan of South Bend, Darlys (James) Glick of Niles, MI, sons, Darrell (Dawn) Shipley of Niles, MI, Darwin (Vicky) Shipley of South Bend, along with daughter in law, Doris Shipley of Florida. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren. Margie was preceded in death by her son, Quentin Shipley and her 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

Margie was a long-time faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in South Bend and worked as a bank teller for 1st Source Bank, after leaving the bank her and Eldon spent their time traveling. Her greatest joy came from caring and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. Margie was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. Over the years she enjoyed going to Wisconsin with her family on their fishing trips, although removing the fish from the hook wasn’t her favorite thing to do.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend, with Pastor Jeremiah Jording officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
