Marie Helene (Pflumio) Carter

Marie Helene (Pflumio) Carter, age 84, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on June 27, 2026. She was born on December 30, 1941, in Luneville, France, and lived a life marked by love, devotion, and quiet strength.

Marie graduated from high school in France and carried with her the grace and resilience of her upbringing throughout her life. She met the love of her life, Dennis Carter, while he was stationed in France with the Army. They were introduced by a mutual friend, and although Marie spoke no English when they first met, their connection quickly grew into a lifelong bond. They were married in France on December 31, 1960, and shared many cherished years together until Dennis passed away on September 22, 2017.

Marie was a woman with a heart of gold. She was known for her generosity, her deep empathy, and the kindness she extended to everyone around her. She loved to go shopping and then have lunch with her longtime neighbor Pam Standridge. She also found joy in the friendship she shared with her dear friend Betty VanderMel. She especially treasured time spent with her family, and those moments brought her great happiness. Marie and Dennis also shared a love of gardening, and together they grew the best tomatoes. She also loved growing flowers and took pride in the beauty she helped create around her home.

Her love for animals was equally strong, and she adored her dogs, Bijou and Kiki. She was preceded in death by her beloved dogs Beau and Capucine, who held a special place in her heart. Marie’s gentle spirit and affectionate nature were reflected in the way she cared for those she loved, both human and animal alike.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Matthew) Hammons; her sons, Patrick Carter and Mark (Michele) Carter; her grandchildren, Zachary (Heather), Mackensie, Rylee, Rachel; and her great-grandchildren, Karris, Lennox, Struen, Truett, Addy, and Avery. She is also survived by her brother, Alain (Christiane) Pflumio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Carter; her grandson, Ryan; her father, Robert Werich; her mother, Paulette (Fernande) Pflumio; and her brother, Michel Pflumio.

A graveside service will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 2:00pm at Ferrisville Cemetery located on the NW corner of State Road 331 & Kern Road, Mishawaka, IN  46544. Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel is honored to be assisting the family with final arrangements.
