Marilyn J. Creighton, 86 years old, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Marilyn was born on May 5, 1936 in Plymouth, IN to the late Earl and Mildred (Frick) Stealy. She has remained a lifelong resident. On October 1, 1955 in Lakeville, Marilyn and Frank W. Creighton were united in marriage. Frank preceded his wife in death after 62 years of marriage on March 18, 2018.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Rhonda L. Creighton of Lakeville; granddaughter, Kelsey L. (Jordan) Miller of Lakeville; three great grandchildren, Gretchen L., Colin A., and Cooper A. Miller; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Wiltrout of South Bend. Marilyn is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and JoAnn Stealy and Roger and Susan Stealy; sister-in-law, Avis Backofer and her husband, John; and brother-in-law, Jack Wiltrout.
Marilyn was a hard worker all of her life. She formerly worked at Associates in South Bend, Tupperware office in Lakeville, Signature Group and the Housing Authority of St. Joseph County. Marilyn and Frank were former owners of the Crate-n-Caboodle Convenience Store and she formerly worked at the Old Lakeville School Project as the manager for ten years. Marilyn was a graduate of Riley High School, Class of 1954. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Union Township 4-H Advisory Board, and the Union Township Advisory Board. Marilyn was a consistent supporter of Big Blue, assisting LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School and the athletic programs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Graveside services and burial will follow at Porter Rae Cemetery, within Potato Creek State Park, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11th, and from 10-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
