Marlene Neulist Obituary

Marlene C. Neulist, 86, of South Bend, IN, and formerly of St. Louis, MO, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. She was born on November 24, 1934 in St. Louis, MO to the late Clyde and Vera (Smith) Fults. On September 11, 1954 in St. Louis, Marlene married George Neulist, who preceded her in death on December 12, 2012.

Marlene is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Chris) Hildebrandt of Granger, IN; son, Frank Neulist of Hillsboro, MO; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Bayless, Nikki (Matt) Kerkhoff, Kari (Jake) Dallas, Cory (Paige) Hildebrant, Sarah Hildebrandt, Amy Hildebrant, and Drew Hildebrandt; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin, Lane, Miles, Owen, Ava, Charlotte, Beckham, and Bailey; and brother, Gayle Fults. In addition to her husband and parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Franklin.

Marlene resided at Arborwood retirement community and enjoyed her neighbors and staff. She cherished the many talks and card games that helped make Indiana her new home. Marlene was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. She was extremely athletic in her younger years and was known for her strong will and fighting spirit, which helped her survive breast cancer. She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and loved her companion dog, a Bichon Poodle named Ben.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Wellbrooke, who Marlene fondly greeted with “Hello, friend!”
