Mary Jean Balla

Mary Jean Balla, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at her home, at the age of 95.

Mary was born on May 28, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of the late Carl W. and Mary Anna (Hinz) Sanders.  On October 25, 1958 in Indianapolis, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Balla, who preceded her in death on November 23, 2017.  After moving to the area with her husband Edward in 1961, Mary began working at 1st Source Bank in 1966.  She retired from the bank in 1991 after 25 years of service.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Adrianne Balla of South Bend, along with her five grandchildren, Claire, Gabrielle, Brian, Olivia Lenyo and Peter Balla.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Walter Hamilton of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy, Helen, and Dolores.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 IN-933, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.  Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
