Mary Jo Beemer, 81, residing in Elkhart, passed away at 9:50 am Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born August 18, 1934 in South Bend to the late Arthur and Gertrude Tyler, and remained a lifelong area resident.
Mary Jo was a piano teacher for over 20 years. She also was the organist at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member. Mary Jo loved traveling, especially to Europe, Paris and Mexico
Mary Jo married Donald Beemer, who preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded by a daughter, Pamela Burg; son, Philip Beemer; grandson, Tyler Beemer; and sister, Jeannette Lever. She is survived by granddaughters, Kassi Beemer and Haili Cherry, both of Mishawaka, IN; nieces, Mary (Jeff) Lever of Owasso, OK and Marguerite Woodall of Tulsa, OK; and nephew, Noel (Jennifer) Lever of Seattle, WA; as well as her caregiver of ten years, Bertha Pena.
Funeral services for Mary Jo will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main Street, South Bend. Rev. Warren Kirkwood will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend.
