Mary Hunter Obituary

Mary Kathryn (Cagle) Hunter, aged 71, of South Bend, Indiana, formerly of Fremont, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024. Born on July 21, 1952, in Sandusky, OH, she was a daughter of the late James and Ernestine (Sutherland) Flick, and the beloved wife of David Hunter. Mary and David were united in marriage on June 26, 1971, in Mishawaka, Indiana, and together they built a life filled with love and dedication to family.

Mary graduated from Fremont Ross High School in Ohio and embraced her role in life as a homemaker with zeal and devotion. Her unwavering commitment to her family was evident in every facet of her life. She provided a warm and welcoming home for her husband, children, and grandchildren, always prioritizing their happiness and well-being.

She is survived by her devoted husband, David; their children, Kim Hunter of South Bend, Bethany Hunter of Mishawaka, and Joseph (Kelley) Hunter of South Bend; her cherished grandchildren, Makaylah, Violet, and Mikel Hunter; her brothers, Pat Flick and Steven (Deanna) Flick, both of Ohio. Mary was preceded by her parents; her daughter, Jenni Hunter; and her sister, Lisa Saam.

Mary's enthusiasm for life was contagious, and her interests were a reflection of her love for her family. She enjoyed watching her granddaughter Makaylah play volleyball, her grandson Mikel play T-ball, and also loved working in the yard. Local garage sales were a favorite pastime, as well as family trips to the zoo, which were always a special treat. Mary’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and selflessness—qualities that have left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

With a heart that knew no bounds, Mary will be remembered as the epitome of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her enduring legacy will continue to thrive in the lives of her family and all those she touched with her gentle spirit.
