My deepest Sympathy to all of you. I talked with Mary Lou last week. She told me that she was not afraid. She also shared with me her deep love of God and the blessed Virgin Mary. She fought a hard battle and now she is at peace.

Over time and distance, I've often thought of Mary Lou and our years of meaningful friendship. As teens and later, we shared the experience of being second children, basking in the reflected glow of the many successes of older siblings, and loving them for lighting our way. We made trips on foot up and down Ridgedale Road between our homes to fight our seemingly endless battles with dreaded weight gains. And, most of all, we shared our youthful philosophies of life and wacky humor as near-sisters with adult senses of family dynamics, and their impact on our lives. I was fortunate to have Mary Lou as a true blue friend during an extended and important time in both our lives, and will miss her always.
