Mary Lou (Tait) Grunawalt

Mary Lou Grunawalt, 87, of South Bend passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born August 22, 1933 in Waterloo, IA to the late Orren W. and Helen J. (Brothers) Tait.  On June 12, 1954 in South Bend, Mary Lou married her loving husband of 61 years, Edward G. Grunawalt, Sr., who preceded her in death on December 19, 2015.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughters, Karin (Bruce) Wirick of Granger, IN, and Linda Moon of South Bend, IN; sons, Edward Grunawalt, Jr. of Mishawaka, IN and Kevin (Kim) Grunawalt of Granger, IN; ten grandchildren, Kristie, Stephanie, Bryan, Ashley, Katie, Kara, Taylor, Grant, Matt and Kolleen; six great-grandchildren, Neven, Maksim, Parker, Talon, Gabby and Cash; and brother, Bill Tait of Venice, FL.

Mary Lou graduated from John Adams High School before attending Indiana University.  She was a wonderful and caring mother, who always put her family first.  Mary Lou was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, the Elks Club, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Tri Kappa, Service Guild, and Christ Child Society.  Mary Lou and her husband, Ed, spent their winters at their second home in Bonita Springs, FL. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, golfing, playing bridge, and shopping with her daughters.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with the arrangements.
