Mercedes A. DePoy

Mercedes A. DePoy, 91, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 21, 2021.  She was born on March 6, 1929 in South Bend to the late Curtis A. and Dorothy (McFall) Gallert.  On August 2, 1952 in South Bend she was united in marriage to Aubrey DePoy who preceded her in death in 1968.  Mercedes worked for Slicks Laundry for 28 years and delivered newspapers for the Chicago Tribune and New York Times for 30 years.

Mercedes is survived by her son, Claude R. DePoy (Nancy Morgan) of South Bend.  She also leaves behind her friend Philip Schatz of South Bend.

Mercedes was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ and a member of Sinai Synagogue.  She enjoyed collecting stamps, postcards, and was an avid book collector.  It was said that she traveled the world through the books that she read.

Services for Mercedes will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the mausoleum chapel in Highland Cemetery, 2257 Portage Ave, South Bend, IN 46616. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel will be assisting the family with arrangements.
