Michael Magiera Obituary

Michael E. Magiera (known affectionately as Mike), of New Carlisle, IN, formerly of South Bend passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in New Carlisle.

He was born on January 2, 1953 to Edmund and Patricia (Bare) Magiera.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Timothy Magiera.

He is survived by the love of his life, Judy Parmley, whom he met on February 14, 1970.  They spent the last 50 years creating wonderful memories with family and friends.  Mike is also survived by many nieces and nephews that reside in Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi and North Carolina.  The imprint that Mike made on this world is felt by many, he was a wonderful companion and a second father to countless people who love and miss him very much.

After graduating from Washington High School in South Bend, Mike earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette.  Mike was the Owner and Operator of Mike Magiera, Inc. for over 30 years.  His company was largely known for the Top Fuel wings that he designed for race cars.

Mike’s two great passions were racing (Motorcross/Auto) and photography.  In his younger years he raced motorcycles at RedBud MX.  A self-proclaimed car nut, Mike started making wings for dragsters as a side job.  His work with industry leaders eventually led him into production and Mike Magiera, Inc. was formed.  During his career, Mike collaborated on many projects and was highly regarded for the quality of his product, knowledge and commitment to the sport.  He genuinely loved what he did and the friends he made along the way.

Over the years, Mike captured memories at family parties and other important occasions.  Later in life, as his skills developed, he photographed sporting events, weddings, and senior pictures to name a few.  In the last few years, he became involved with Special Olympics, this was something that he looked forward to and held close to his heart.  Mike also especially enjoyed taking nature photos; his close-ups were breath taking.

Mike loved spending time with family and friends talking for hours, enjoying a good meal and just being silly.  He was always up for an adventure and loved the outdoors.  Mike was kind and compassionate to all living things.  He enjoyed his work and helping people – everyone was his equal and valued.  Mike’s memory will continue to live on through all who knew him.

Due to COVID 19 no services will be held, a memorial will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to:  Special Olympics, St. Joseph County Humane Society, or any charity of your choosing.
