Michael John McGinnity

Michael John McGinnity, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on May 19, 2023, in Elkhart, Indiana. Born on January 10, 1952, in Gary, Indiana, Michael was known for his conversation, intelligence, and loyalty to his family.

Michael was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda J. McGinnity of Elkhart, IN, his cherished daughters, Elizabeth A. Klein of DuPont, WA, and Jessica L. (Jason) Davis of Dayton, OH, and his adored grandchildren, Isaiah Miles, Amelia Klein, Luke Davis, and Caleb Davis. He is also survived by his siblings, Margaret Thomas of South Bend, IN, Kathleen Erin of Peoria, IL, Jane McGinnity of Phoenix, AZ, Susan McGinnity of Mesa, AZ, Mary McGinnity of Mesa, AZ, Patrick (Tina) McGinnity of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Joseph (Cathy) McGinnity of Maricopa, AZ. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary K. McGinnity, and his brother, Timothy McGinnity.

Michael was most proud of his service to his country as an Air Traffic Controller in the U.S. Navy. While in the service, Michael received recognition for his “spirit of compassion” when he saved the life of a fellow shipmate. Following his military service, Michael was drawn to aviation and earned his private pilot license and went on to hold numerous careers. Michael served as a private contractor in Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom and spent his later years working in various transport specialties.

Michael's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. His legacy of devotion, protection, and intellect will continue to impact those who were blessed to know Michael.

Michael battled Alzheimer's for several years and is now resting with his Savior in heaven surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him and remembered fondly by those who carry on his legacy.

Visitation for Michael will be held at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, on Saturday, May 27th, starting at 10 am with services at 11 am.
