Michael Jay Michaels, 55, residing in South Bend, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at his home following a tractor accident. He was born August 27, 1959 in South Bend to Norman Michaels and Barbara (Siderits) Morlan and remained a lifelong area resident.
Mike graduated from John Adams High School in 1978. He worked in parts and sales at a John Deere Dealership for Greenmark Equipment and enjoyed a passion for working on cars requiring the use of a “special tool”. He was known for his quick wit and being a master of puns.
Mike is survived by his parents, Norman (Barbie) Michaels of Mishawaka and Barbara (Don) Morlan of South Bend; his son, Elliott Michaels of Oregon; one brother, Kevin (Nancy) Michaels of Lansing, MI; and his long-time companion, Lynda Clark of South Bend. He also was a mentor to several children. Anyone who knew Michael, knew he had a heart of gold. Mike was a person who would do anything for you. His kind heart had no boundaries. There is so much more we have learned about his kindnesses, as he did not brag.
Lynda and Mike were the best couple, who complemented each other in so many ways: loving, compassion, understanding, family.
Mike is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins of the Luczynski family, as well as the Coleman and Siderits families.
Funeral services for Mike will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 24, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with Fr. Terry Fisher officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, July 23, 2015 in the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm by Fr. Terry.
