June 17, 1959 ~ July 8, 2022 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Obituary

It is with great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved Husband, Brother, Brother-In-Law, Uncle, Great Uncle, and dear friend to all who were honored to have known him, Michael A. Roberts. Mike passed away suddenly Friday July 9th at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. Mike was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 17, 1959, to Bernard G. Roberts, Sr. and Joyce E. (Williams) Roberts of Mishawaka, Indiana. After graduating from Penn High School, he eventually found his calling in the Electrical Trade and was a proud Journeyman with IBEW #153. Mike retired from the University of Notre Dame in 2018.

For those who were fortunate enough to know Mike, they had the privilege of his gift of laughter, love, and compassion for others. He loved helping others, times with family and friends, and living life to the fullest. One of his greatest gifts was his natural ability to bring a smile to everyone he encountered. He loved making memories with family and friends and meeting new people. He enjoyed his numerous projects, classic rock, sports, and Belle, Rocket, and Moose. He was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Da Bears. He was known for his never-ending passion for Notre Dame Sports, especially football and tailgating. Mike and Karen were the absolute best of friends and have a never-ending love for each other.

He is survived by his wife Karen (Deranek) Roberts married just shy of 25 years, Bernard (Victoria) Roberts Jr., Susan Roberts, Ann (Terry) Mc Callum, Don (Marcia) Roberts, Alicia Eichberger, Janet (Dan Mihal) Roberts and Kim Greene as well as many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews.  In addition, he is survived by Karen’s parents, siblings and spouses, nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents Bernard and Joyce Roberts and his brother Leo.

Visitation for Mike will be on Wednesday July 13, 2022, at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel located at 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, Indiana from 4pm to 8pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 14, 2022, at 10am at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Rd., South Bend, Indiana. Father John Delaney Pastor will officiate. Friends may also visit with the family one hour prior to mass. Graveside services will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Mike’s family extends the utmost gratitude to Memorial Hospital nurses, support staff, and doctors for their compassionate care during this incredibly difficult time. In lieu of flowers, we ask for memorial donations to be made in Mike’s name to the Indiana Donor Network Foundation, 3760 Guion Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46222. Donations may also be made online at https://indianadonornetwork.org/foundation.  True to the way Mike lived his life, he was able to provide three individuals a chance to spend more time with family and friends.

Karen requires any and all guests attending services wear a mask.
