Minnie N. Wallace (Griffin), lovingly known to many as “Granny,” passed away on May 26, 2026, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 92.
Minnie was born on November 4, 1933, in Houston, Mississippi, and lived a life marked by strength, devotion, and care for others. She was a woman whose presence brought comfort, her words brought encouragement, and her actions reflected a lifelong commitment to family and community. She was known for her generous heart and for the way she naturally took care of everyone around her.
Minnie devoted much of her life to helping others, including serving as a foster mom for the Juvenile Justice system. In that role and throughout her life, she opened her heart and home to those in need of guidance, stability, and love. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will be remembered by all who knew her.
She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and found joy in garage sales, gardening, flowers, bingo, puzzles, and playing cards. These favorite pastimes reflected her warm personality and her appreciation for time spent in good company. Whether she was tending to her garden, searching for treasures, or sitting down for a game, Minnie brought energy, laughter, and a sense of togetherness to every moment.
Minnie was preceded in death by her mother, Annette Brownlee; her daughters, Marsha Irons and Stella Griffin; her sons, Robert Earl Irons, Anthony Dell Irons, and Brother Thomas Brownlee; and her beloved grandchildren; James E. Wallace, Andrew Griffin, Tracy Irons, Rodney Morgan, Randy Griffin and other loved ones who went before her. Her memory is also carried in the hearts of many family members who remain to honor her life and cherish all she gave so freely.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Brown, Mary Joyce Griffin, Jackie Turner and her husband Victor, Melony Wallce, and Johnnie Mae Wallace; her sons, David Cohen, Sylvester Griffin, Charles Irons and his wife Cheryl, and Billy Hendrix; her sister, Margaret Sue Wheeler and her husband Louis; her brother J. Huey Brownlee, a host of grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a large and loving family who will continue to be strengthened by the example she set.
Though her earthly journey has ended, the love Minnie Wallace shared will remain forever in the lives of those she touched. Her family finds peace in knowing that her caring spirit, her wisdom, and her unwavering devotion will continue to live on in every memory, every story, and every heart that was blessed by her presence.
