Mrs. Modist Lloyd, 92, of South Bend, Indiana, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother made her transition on March 5, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Modist was born on February 18th, 1926, in South Bend, to the union of Harry and Letha (Newcomb) Simpson, who preceded her in death. Modist served as a Dietitian’s Assistant for several decades at St. Joseph’s Hospital before retiring.
Most of all, she served an even longer term as the bedrock and matriarch of a family co-anchored by her husband, Elmer, who survives her, along with daughters, Julianna (Stephen) Long, Karen Pfeifer, Georgia Lloyd and one son, Tommy Lloyd; 11 grandchildren: Adrian (Anayansi) Lloyd, Stacey (Darnell) Evans, DaMon (Leah) Johnson, LaTeaka (Terry) Conner, Jason Chism, Michael Curtindolph, Tommy Lloyd, Jr., Ashley Pfeifer, Jennifer Pfeifer, Trent (Angelica) Lloyd and Shacarra Lloyd; 22 great grandchildren: Alesia Blount, Marvin Brown, Jr., Antonio Sanders, Alicia Johnson, Stefan Heard, Cashmiera Brown, Alexis Brown, Teri Conner, Tionna Curtindolph, Braxton Alwine, DaMon Johnson, Jr., Maxwell Lloyd, Kayley Bouterse, James Bouterse, Vincent Bouterse, Ra’Tayvia Pfeifer, Kayvion Scott, Krisalyn Pfeifer, Adriana Pfeifer, Tierra Pfeifer, Zechariah Pfeifer, Isaiah Pfeifer; 2 great-great grandchildren: Preston Blount and Britton Thomas. Modist is also survived by her baby sister, Virginia (Francis) Reid and was preceded in death by sisters, Gloria Foster, Georgia Mae Parker-Gray, Inetta Parker-Starks and a brother, Harry Simpson, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM at Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 South Michigan St. South Bend, IN 46614, with visitation occurring from 10AM-11AM.
