Morris D. Mathews

Morris D. Mathews, 94 years old, peacefully passed away Monday, February 22, 2021 at Sanctuary at St. Paul’s in South Bend. He was born April 29, 1926 in South Bend, IN to the late Morris M. and Hazel (Ridenour) Mathews. On November 23, 1946 in South Bend, Morris married the love of his life, Wanda Anderson, who preceded him in death in 2004.

Morris was a lifelong resident of South Bend. Morris proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 6th Armored Division. He remained on active reserve from 1946-1953. Upon returning home, he worked for AEP as a General Crew Supervisor for 41 years, before retiring. He then worked for Gurley Leep as a part time driver. Morris loved to travel, gardening, square dancing, and going camping with his friends and family. He painted watercolors and would even refer to himself as a watercolor artist. Morris was also a proud member of the VFW.

Morris is survived by his daughter, Janet (Kevin) Maggert of Mishawaka; son, Craig (Sylvia) Mathews of Mishawaka; and granddaughter, Jayme (John) Bacher of Indianapolis. Along with his parents and loving wife, Wanda, Morris is preceded in death by his sister, Delores Padgett; and brother, William A Mathews.

Funeral services for Morris will be 1:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Homes-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend, IN 46615. Friends may visit with family starting at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
