Nancy (Gatliff) Carmichael

Nancy Carmichael, 66, passed away at 3:49am on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in her home, with her loving family by her side.

Nancy was born on July 22, 1955, in Crawfordsville, to the late Bill E. and Phyllis D. (Black) Gatliff. Nancy was also preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Wallace.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Carmichael of South Bend and Stacey (Andrew Campbell) Carmichael of England; sisters, Sheryl (Tim) Starnes and Julie (Dale) Taylor all of Crawfordsville, IN, several nieces, and nephews; and her beloved pet dog, Joey.

Nancy obtained a degree in Special Education from Ball State University and a Master’s from IUSB. She was a Special Education teacher at Dickinson Intermediate for 36 years and drew strength from the students she impacted daily and the teachers she called friends.

There will be no funeral service – instead, the family is hosting a Celebration of Life Open House at Irish Hills Community Center (4245 Irish Hills Drive, South Bend, IN  46614) on Saturday October 23rd from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society, St. Joe County.
