Nancy Lee (Petzhold) Gentry

Nancy Lee Gentry, 92 years old, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away the morning of January 21, 2023 in her home. She was born on August 28, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Charles and Ruth (Scott) Petzhold. Nancy and Hunter Gentry were united in marriage in Florida and spent 55 wonderful years together until his passing in 2017.

Nancy is survived by five children, Richard (Lorrie) Roberts, Stephen Roberts, Mary Elizabeth (John) White, Lawrence (Gail) Gentry, and Brad (Cheryl) Gentry. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, 4 nieces and nephews, 7 great-nieces and nephews, and one sister, Patricia Lawler of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Nancy had many passions in life. She worked as a volunteer at the LaSalle Public Library for 32 years, where she won an award for most volunteer hours worked. When she wasn’t at the library, Nancy was surrounded by her loving family. She was a Navy Wife for 26 and a half years and their family traveled all over the world. Nancy and Hunter’s refrigerator was covered in magnets they collected during their travels, including one from each state. Nancy and Hunter also loved to go bowling together.

Nancy was a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, sister, and friend. Nancy was loved by many people and will be dearly missed.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Homes - Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd, South Bend, IN 46635. An additional visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at New Life Church - Osceola, 11593 McKinley Hwy, Osceola, IN 46561, with an 11 a.m. funeral service to follow.
