Nancy R. Truax was born on November 10, 1939, in Coffeyville, Kansas, and passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Wakarusa, Indiana. She lived most of her life in the Elkhart and South Bend areas, where she built a life centered on compassion, connection, and care for others.
She was a mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend whose colorful and vibrant spirit brought warmth and light into every room she entered. A nurse by calling and by nature, Nancy had a deep love for people and cared for anyone and everyone she encountered. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, both personally and professionally.
Nancy had a true love for all living things. She found joy in nurturing life in all its forms, from tending to her beloved plants to caring deeply for animals. Her gentle heart extended to everyone and everything around her, and she brought comfort and joy wherever she went.
She is survived by her loving family and all those whose lives were made brighter by knowing her. Nancy’s legacy will live on through the love she shared and the many lives she touched.
There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will take place at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, IN, at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be made at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
