Nelson E. Nickles

Nelson E. Nickles, 82, of Walkerton passed away on Thursday May 18, 2023 peacefully at his home.

Nelson was born on January 24, 1941 to the late Carl and Mary (Miller) Nickles.

Nelson served his country in the United States Army from 1963- 1965. Nelson spent his whole life in the Walkerton/North Liberty area and worked as a Draftsman for Bendix and Allied Signal.

Nelson met and married the late Lavon Weiss on April 23, 1966. They shared 37 years of marriage before her passing.

Nelson is survived by his loving children; Robert (Nikki) Nickles of Granger and Carla (Jason) Wiegand of North Liberty. Grandchildren; Alyssa (Coen), Phillip (Maria), Madeline (Jordan), Joshua, Bailey, and Hannah also survive along with great grandchildren; Jayce and Heidi. Also surviving are his siblings; Patricia Dunlap and Donald Nickles, both of Texas.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Lavon, his brother Jack Nickles, and his grandson Tyler Wiegand. He was also preceded by his favorite dog, “Oreo”.

Nelson was an avid collector of original artwork and Mason jars which decorate his entire home. He enjoyed going to auctions, vegetable gardening, planting his flower beds and fruit trees. He was a loyal customer at Christo’s Restaurant in Plymouth.

A special ‘Thank you’ to his favorite caregiver, Laura, who made his days better and gave him a reason to smile and laugh. You were a very special person to us all.

Visitation for Nelson will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Tuesday May 23, 2023 at the Palmer Funeral Home inside the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan St. Lakeville. Burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.

Memorial Contributions in Nelson’s name may be given to the Center for Hospice; 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
