Odie Miller, Jr. Obituary

Odie Miller, Jr. was born in South Bend, IN to Odie Sr. and Dortha (Handy) Miller on June 27, 1963. He was the eighth of their nine children.

Odie was affectionally known as “Junior” by his immediate family and Uncle June by his nephews and nieces. Odie grew up in South Bend and attended school in the South Bend Community School System, graduating from Washington High School. Upon graduating from high school, he began his work career in construction. Odie had a love for helping and assisting friends and family. He had a heart of gold.

Odie departed his earthly life on Monday, October 19, 2020. His sudden departure has touched us all in ways that are not describable. However, we know that God does not make mistakes. Odie’s work career continued in the field of construction until he departed this life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Dortha Miller of South Bend, IN; special aunt Lilllie Farris of Eudora, AK; brothers Murray Miller of South Bend, IN, Donald Price-Miller (Butch) of San Bernardino, CA and Dana (Lana) Price of Irving, TX; sisters Rosia Perkins of Hattiesburg, MS, Dr. Alice Miller (fiancé Michael) of Indianapolis, IN, Karen Miller of Dallas, TX, Debra Mattern (Marie) of Rockville, MD, Patricia (Murray) Williams of Houston, TX and Anette Price of Austin, TX.

Odie was preceded in death by his father, Odie Miller, Sr.; brothers Charles Sr. and Carl Sr. Miller; sister Francine Miller; his paternal and maternal grandparents; nephew Darrell “Mechie” Steele; and a great-nephew, DonTarious Kortez.

“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him”  Thessalonians 4:13-14

Don’t think of him as gone away, his journey’s just begun.

Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting from the sorrow and the tears,

In a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days or years.

Think how he must be wishing that we could know today,

How nothing but our sadness can really pass away.

And think of him as living, in the hearts of those he touched.

For nothing loved is ever lost, and h was loved so much.
