Odis Johnson, a man whose zest for life and love for his family knew no bounds, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in Memorial Hospital. Born on January 22, 1946, in Lilbourn, Missouri. In 1951 Odis and his family moved to Michigan.
He was the son of the late James and Rosie. He was raised in a loving home with his mom and stepdad Odell. Odis's memory will be cherished by his adoring siblings, Remel, Kathy, DeElla, Diane, Edward, George (Jerry), and Arthur. His values will live on through the many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who had the privilege of knowing him.
Odis's journey through life was marked by love, joy, and a deep-seated faith. As a teenager, he learned about his Creator, Jehovah GOD. He was thrilled to learn Jehovah’s name! Through his study about Jehovah and his purpose, Odis developed a deep love for Jehovah. He would share what he learned with strangers, family and friends. At eighteen years of age Odis went on to be baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in August 1964 in Chesterton, IN.
As a teenager, Odis was also interested in fun. A neighbor took Odis out to the local skating rink where he spent many happy hours honing his skills. Just as he shared what he learned from the Bible with others, he got others excited and involved in roller skating. He even went on to win a competition with his sister. He really enjoyed old school R&B music. The music inspired him to move with rhythm and grace across the skating floor while bringing joy to those around him.
Little did anyone know at that time, his passion for roller skating would continue well into his sixties!
Odis's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family and the God that he served, Jehovah. His Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's challenges with grace and fortitude. He was a righteous man who lived his truth fearlessly.
Odis loved his family deeply. He loved spending time with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and family in general. One of his greatest joys was sharing a laugh over ice cream, cookies, cake, or other sweet treats! Yes, Odis had a sweet tooth! One niece confessed, “I know if I went with Uncle Odie, something sweet would be involved!”
Odis embraced life but also knew that this system is not all there is. His belief and hope in the resurrection were strong, and he maintained his belief and hope until the end. He was a good friend to many. His absence will leave a void in the lives of those who loved him. His presence was a source of comfort and strength. His ability to love was a gift.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Odis Johnson, we do so with the knowledge that his legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue to inspire us. He was, without a doubt, the best son, brother, uncle, and friend one could ask for, an example of love. Though he has departed from this earthly system, the impact of his unwavering faith in Jehovah and love for his family will remain.
A limb has fallen from the family tree
That says grieve not for me;
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song;
The good life I lived while I was STRONG!
