Patricia Clark Obituary

Patricia B. Clark, also affectionately known as Pat Clark, 96, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on March 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 19, 1929, to Wade Brummell and Ida (Taliaferro) Brummell.

Patricia B. Clark, a trailblazer and pillar of her community, left a lasting legacy as a true pioneer in the funeral home industry. She was one of the few women to lead a funeral home during her time, founding Clark’s Funeral Home in 1962. Over the course of more than 50 years, she grew the business into a well-respected establishment and a symbol of black excellence within the African American community of South Bend. Her dedication to her work and community has left an indelible mark on the lives of many.

Patricia was not only a successful businesswoman but also a devoted member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She cherished Sunday dinners with her family, moments spent in their company, and the joy of watching a good football game.

In addition to her success in business, Patricia was among the first African Americans to graduate from St. Joseph Academy in 1947, which later became St. Joe High School. She earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Indiana University, followed by graduation from Worsham Mortuary College in Chicago. Patricia also briefly taught at Linden Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of the NAACP.

Patricia is survived by her children: Paula (Don) Grandison, Stacy Clark, Romnee (Carl) Clark-Seaberg, and Courtney “Nicki” (Gabriel) Loera. She cherished her grandchildren, Whitney (Jacob) Alexander, Phillip Grandison, Marcus Machado, and Sommer Machado, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jaxon Alexander, Jacob “Jr” Alexander, and Cairo Braswell. Along with a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Patricia's love for her family was immeasurable, and she took great pride in watching her loved ones grow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Clark, and her beloved grandson, Adam Grandison. Patricia was also preceded by her cherished sisters and brother, Betty Simpson, Antonio (ShugaDee) Ross, Suzan Hughes, and her brother, William (June) Brummell.
