Patricia Ann “Pat” Karpinski, 83, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at Cedarhurst Senior Living at Edison Lakes.
Pat was born on March 17, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, to Samuel Besase Sr. and Ida (Tarsha) Green. She was later lovingly raised by her stepfather, William Green.
On November 23, 1968, she married the love of her life, David Karpinski. Together they shared many wonderful years until his passing in 2017.
Pat dedicated her career to serving others, holding positions at Hesburgh Library, Architecture Office, and in disaster preparedness all on the campus of Notre Dame. She was known for her strong work ethic, warm heart, and willingness to help wherever needed.
She was very active in the Elks Lodge #235 where she was the chaplain, and formerly held chairs as lecturing knight and loyal knight for 15 years. She enjoyed golfing in Notre Dame’s golf league for over 35 years. Additional hobbies include photography, bowling, golf and dancing where she danced with Debbie Wherbrouck silverstars dancers for over 15 years. She loved Elvis and enjoyed following Notre Dame.
She is survived by her children, Theresa “Teri” Paul of South Bend, Michael (Mary) Karpinski of Westfield, and David Karpinski of South Bend. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Samantha (Chris) Laudis, Tyler (Jessica) Paul, Michelle Karpinski, Polly Endicott, Matthew Endicott, and Laura Endicott; along with eleven great-grandchildren, Camden, Decklan, Natalie, Maria, Leah, Ethan, Sam, Isaiah, Luna, Zoraya and Aiyla.
Pat is also survived by her sister, Julie Spears of Perrysburg, Ohio; her brother, Samuel Besase Jr. of Rotonda, Florida; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Pat will be remembered for her devotion to family, kindness to friends, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Her memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Homes, Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, IN. An Elks service will take place at 12:50 p.m immediately prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
