Paul Donald McKennon, beloved husband of the late Lorraine McKennon whom he met at age 15 while attending Kelly High School, sharing a devoted 71-year marriage from 1949 until her passing in 2020; loving father of Dennis and Cheryl (Michael); cherished grandfather to James (Amber), Michelle, and Karin; proud great-grandfather to Reagan and Colin; brother in law to Arlene, and great-uncle to Paula and Sarah, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 98.
Born on January 9, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, Paul grew up in the bustling city and attended Kelly High School in Brighton Park. At the young age of 16, he began a lifelong career with the Santa Fe Railroad, where his dedication and skill led him to rise through the ranks to become a Train Master. The role often involved relocations across the country as the railroad assigned him to different divisions and locations, moving Paul and Lorraine nationwide, yet their partnership remained a constant source of strength until his retirement in 1986 after 57 years of service. Paul was a talented handyman who could fix almost anything and generously shared his skills to help family, friends, and neighbors. His caring nature shone through in his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.
Above all, Paul was the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—always present, supportive, and full of love. His children will forever cherish his unwavering guidance and affection. His grandchildren and great-nieces will miss his wisdom, stories, and the special bond they shared.
Preceded in death by his parents, Paul McKennon and Marge (Myers) Robinson; his sister, Doris (Marty) Spera; and brothers-in-law, Paul and Jacob Budz and his beloved wife, Lorraine; Paul leaves behind a family who adored him and a community that respected him deeply.
As we bid farewell to Paul, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with hard work, family devotion, and quiet kindness—moments that will be treasured forever.
