Phillip Howard Derrickson, 80, departed this life on July 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. He was born on June 14, 1942, to the union of the late Robert Howard Derrickson and Mary (Williams) Derrickson in Mattoon, Illinois.
On August 20, 1966, in South Bend, Indiana, he was joined in marriage to Jacqueline Stith, who survives along with sons, David (Dana) Derrickson of Goshen, Indiana and Phillip (Susan) Derrickson of South Bend, Indiana; daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Moore of Mishawaka, Indiana; stepmother Julia Derrickson, 4 brothers, Lawrence (Melanie) Derrickson of Decatur, Illinois, Steven (Tina) Derrickson of Mattoon, Illinois, Jackie (Linda) Derrickson of South Bend, and Christopher (Gloria) Derrickson of Mishawaka; 3 sisters, Phyllis Derrickson Nesbit of Florida, Oletha (Arthur) Jones of South Bend, and Iris Derrickson of Osceola; 9 grandchildren, Armando, Alisha, Leann, Jacob, Rachel, Isaiah, Alexis, Phillip Jr., Kaitlin; 8 great grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Phillip was inducted in US Army in 1964 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He later worked with his father in the family concrete construction business. Later on Phillip ran his own general commercial contracting business. Phillip was in construction for over 40 years. After retiring from construction, he drove school bus for South Bend Community Schools for 8 years until full retirement in 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Howard Derrickson and Mary Derrickson; and his brother Robert Thomas (Buster) Derrickson, and his paternal and maternal grandparents, and a host of aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, July 29, 2022, at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. David Derrickson will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 11:00am Friday until time of services at the funeral home.
