– Raymond Richard Heilman, 81, of South Bend, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at the Majestic Care of West Allen in Fort Wayne.
Raymond was born September 1, 1939 in South Bend, to the late Charles and Bertha (Peck) Heilman.
He attended John Adams High School.
On June 6, 1959 in South Bend, Raymond married Sandra Lee Mumaw; she survives of South Bend.
Raymond retired from AM General after thirty-four years of service, where he was an auto mechanic. He was very active and was the past vice-president of the UAW Local 5. He also was on the CAP committee. He loved music, camping, traveling, dancing, telling jokes, animals, playing cards, old cars and being outside enjoying nature.
Surviving is his loving wife of sixty-one years, Sandra Lee Heilman of South Bend; his children, Scott Heilman, Gregory (Mary Vallely) Heilman, Kimberly (Van) Jones, and Jacqueline Schafer; his six grandchildren, Nathan Fovary, Kyle (Kanaisha) Jones, Tiffany Heilman, Jessika (Nash Bennett) Jones, Tori (Aaron Gettys) Jones, Jaden Heilman; six great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Khloe, Jaxon, Harley, Kingston and Demarius. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Chuck, David, Allen, Judy, Debbie, Mary Carol, Keith, Kathy, Joey, Mark and Timothy, as well as numerous cousins. He was always excited when “the girls” came to visit from Detroit.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ruth (Jim) Dye, Charles (Sally) Heilman, Martha (Bob) Scheiwe, Lola (Johnny) Kozuch, and Rosalie Heilman.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Raymond’s life will be at a later date.
