Raymond E. Stancombe, 92, passed away on Saturday evening, February 13, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. He was born on December 23, 1928 in Bloomington, IN, to Bruce and Lennie (Perkins) Stancombe, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 19, 1949 in Elmwood, IL, Raymond married the former Mary V. Therriault, who survives.
In addition to his wife of 71 years, Raymond is survived by his four children, Bruce (Kate) Stancombe of Brighton, MI; Vanessa Hirth of Casselberry, FL; Donna Knight of Buchanan, MI; and Brad (Sonia) Stancombe of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) Waters of Oviedo, FL; Nicholas (Stephanie) Stancombe of Carmel, IN; Alexandra (Chaning Marsh) Knight of Clinton, IL; and Mary Kate Stancombe of South Bend, IN; and three great-grandchildren, Amya and Derek Waters, and Gwendolyn Rae Stancombe. Raymond was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine (James) Coursey, as well as his great-grandson, Adrien Waters.
Raymond was employed in computer technology for the State of Iowa, from which he retired in 1994. Later, he moved to South Bend from his home in Arkansas in 2012. Ray was known for his love for the game of golf. From caddying as a young boy at Bloomington Country Club, to playing at Pebble Beach, CA, to playing with ‘the boys’ in Bella Vista, AR, or (his most treasured times) to playing with his children and grandchildren, Ray always had the lowest score!
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Raymond’s ashes will be interred at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Contributions in memory of Raymond may be donated to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545, or to First Tee, P.O. Box 3055, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32004.
