Rena Ellen Cannon, 64, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Signature Nursing Home, South Bend, IN. She was born to Wilton Stone and LaWanda Cannon on March 17, 1956 in South Bend.
Rena was a member of Olivet AME Church in South Bend where she was baptized at an early age. She attended LaSalle High School, where she developed her passion for baking. Her specialties were desserts and sandwiches. Rena loved her craft and would tell anyone that she didn’t know how to cook, but she could make them a sandwich and service them a slice of cake. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for Goodwill, as well as being a caregiver for others.
Survivors include a daughter, LaTrease Brown (Quantel Powell) of Benton Harbor, MI; stepmother Elizabeth Stone; one brother, Nathan “Butch” Cannon (Michele Johnson) of South Bend; three nieces: Nina Cannon of Indianapolis, IN, Nikki Stone of South Bend and Juanita Richmond of Huntville, AL; two granddaughters, Juaniqua Brown and Aliyah Muhammad (Sharod Walters) of Benton Harbor; three great-grandchildren: Alaysia Eason, LaMiyah Heard and Na’Jme Muhammad of Benton Harbor; special sisters Leatha Daniels of Flint, MI, Patricia (Dewayne) Roby of South Bend; special niece Monique Robinson of Indianapolis, IN; special nephews Tawain Robinson and Delmar Harris of Flint, MI and Damon Johnson of South Bend; god children the Smiths and Patricks of South Bend, the Robinsons of Flint, MI and a host of special relatives and friends.
Preceding Rena in death are her parents, LaWanda Cannon-Rice and Wilton Stone; sister Sandra Stone; maternal grandparents Jesse and Lurene McCain.
