Rex Carlile Obituary

Rex Lynn Carlile, passed away in his Mishawaka home on April 10, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on October 1, 1939, in Elwood, Indiana, Rex was a man whose life was marked by a spirited passion for his endeavors, a deep love for his family, and a legacy of service and entrepreneurship that left an indelible mark on his community.

Rex was the beloved husband of Helen (Isom) Carlile, whom he married on March 25, 1959. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their shared values and mutual respect. Together, they raised a family that became Rex's pride and joy: his son, Dean (Suzie) Carlile of South Bend, his daughter, Kathy (David) Riggs of Granger, and his son, Don (Christine) Carlile of Mishawaka. Rex's role as a father was one he cherished deeply, guiding his children with love, humor, and wisdom.

He embraced the role of grandfather with the same enthusiasm he had for all his endeavors, cherishing his grandchildren, Megan, Adam, Janéé, Grant, Katy, Jody, and Joe, and delighting in the joys of his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jackson, Lily, Penelope, and Amelia.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lavon (Harbit) Carlile. He is survived by his sisters, Emmagene Doke and Christie Widener, who will remember him for his loving nature and indomitable spirit.

Rex honorably served his country in the United States Navy before embarking on a distinguished entrepreneurial journey. His dedication to service was a hallmark of his character, and it extended into his professional life. He was the Founder and Owner of Adams Remco. His entrepreneurial spirit didn't stop there; he went on to start an impressive 15 businesses, pouring his passion into each venture and becoming a respected figure in the business community. His passion for his work was evident to all who worked with him, and his legacy in the business community will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.

Rex's interests outside of work were as varied as they were enthusiastic. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid outdoorsman, Rex loved fishing, hunting, and golfing. His adventurous spirit led him to many memorable motorhoming trips, and he held a special fondness for the tranquil beauty of the Florida Keys. He was a member of the Elks for over 60 years. Rex also had a love for fine wine, which he enjoyed in the company of friends and family.

Rex's legacy is not only in the successful businesses he built and the community he served but also in the love and guidance he provided to his family. His creative mind was always searching for new ideas, new challenges, and new ways to improve the world around him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his generous spirit.

The family will gather privately to remember Rex and celebrate the remarkable life he led. Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, is assisting the family with arrangements.
